Theovision’s Medical Missions Brings Light to Kete Krachi Local Prison

Inadequate funding, essential medical supplies and medications are but just a few of the current challenges that negatively affect the quality of healthcare provided to inmates in the over 40 prisons in Ghana. Due to this fact, medical care is largely dependent on donations to the prison infirmaries. But in often cases, these donations are not sufficient to satisfy the great need.

In an inspiring display of compassion and goodwill, Theovision International ventured into the confines of Kete Krachi Local Prison on Saturday, August 12, 2023, the last of its week-long medical missions in the Oti Region of Ghana, to provide much-needed medical care within the prison walls. The event not only highlighted the significance of accessible healthcare for all regardless of their circumstances, but also shed light on the transformative power of salvation through God’s Word, and extending a helping hand to those often marginalized by society.

Five years ago, Theovision installed the audio Bible in Ewe language in the Kete Krachi Local Prison to engage the inmates with God’s Word in their heart language. Over the years, it became a need that with the limited access to medical supplies in the prison, inmates and officers often struggle to receive proper care for their ailments. As a result, this medical mission was aimed to address the healthcare challenges faced by inmates and the officers of Kete Krachi Local Prison.

For one day, our team of medical professionals and volunteers transformed the prison yard into a makeshift clinic, ready to address a wide spectrum of health concerns with medical supplies, diagnostic tools, general consultations, a labs, pharmacy, and health insurance registration. We did not only attend to the physical health needs of the inmates but also provided an opportunity for them to engage with medical professionals and ask questions on improving their well-being. We also set up a counselling and prayers station where our team gave personalized godly counsel and gave both inmates and officers the chance to accept Jesus into their hearts.

This unique event had a tremendous impact on both inmates and officers. Inmates, who had long endured neglect and limited healthcare access, were met with genuine care and respect. Medical experts conducted thorough health check-ups, administered essential medications, and offered consultations for a variety of ailments. Chronic conditions that had previously gone unnoticed were discovered, enabling timely intervention and management.

Inmates had the chance to engage in a powerful devotion, with the team sharing God’s Word and leading many to Christ. The team not only addressed physical health but also prioritized the mental and emotional well-being of the inmates, offering counselling and prayers to those grappling with the challenges of incarceration.

As the sun set, it was unmistakably clear that Theovision’s medical outreach had kindled a beacon of hope and change within Kete Krachi Prisons. Overall, 370 persons (both inmates and officers) received medical attention. Through thier experience of revival and a renewed sense of purpose through Christ Jesus, 88 Souls were won to the Glory of God. The team also registered 100 inmates on the National Health Insurance Scheme.

Before the final goodbyes were said, the rest of all medical supplies and medication, as well as clothing, were donated (to be later distributed among the prisoners), to ensure that the positive effects of the outreach would reverberate for a long time.

The impact of this outreach stands as a tribute to the power of compassion, the potential for transformation, and the unifying force of human connection.
