Rural Farmers Get Investment Training

Two years ago, Theovision International established a Bible listening program in the community of Kwakyekrom, where men, women and children meet once a week to listen to the Bible in their own mother tongue. Kwakyekrom is a small farming village, approximately an hour’s drive from Accra and is located in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

Over the last two years, many people have had their lives transformed through the Bible Listening program and about 100 people in this community have grown in their love for the LORD. After ministering in this community for some months, we saw the need to provide the people in this community, most of whom are predominantly farmers, with interactive training programs aimed at equipping them with basic tips on the importance of investment and saving.

The idea was to partner with a reputable investment firm that would teach these farmers and petty traders how to invest or save their income for the future. A very important element of this project was producing the content in audio and in the native language of the people of Kwakyekrom. Theovision  used Databank’s existing reading materials on investment, produced and recorded a dramatized version of the same material in audio in the Twi Language.

After several months of preparations, Databank in collaboration with Theovision successfully launched the pilot project on February 15th 2019. About 100 people from the community turned up for the first audio training on investment and as the audio was being played, we could feel the impact right away as everybody paid close attention.

After listening to the audio, the staff of Databank explained further some of the concepts mentioned from the audio. The listeners then shared what they had heard and asked questions. Some of the questions were centered mostly on the return on investment, withdrawal methods and other general questions about investment.

About 60% of those who attended the first training were women. After the session, 40 people in total signed up with Databank.

At the end of the entire program, our aim is to educate people in the rural communities of Ghana on the importance of investing, using oral technology and making the training available in the mother tongue of the indigenous people.
