The northern part of Ghana comprised of three regions; Upper West, Upper East and the Northern regions. This part of the country unlike the mid-belt and the south has only one major farming season. The season falls within the months of May and July which they have rain and the rest of the year is dry. This makes economic activities, which is mainly farming, unattractive therefore leaving the region very poor.
Development is also very slow because businesses are not willing to invest in the North. Consequently, Churches are also not ready to sent pastors and thus a segment of the country’s population has been left in the dark without the Word of God.
However, Christ’s command says all nations, all people and all kindred’s must be reached. This divine command Theovision obeyed. In collaboration with Covenant Harvest Church, Theovision took up the challenge to support initial five church planting missionaries. Within two years, 15 churches have been planted, 12 missionaries are been supported and more than five thousand souls have been saved and the gospel is been preached to thousands each week. Bible listening programs have been setup in various villages, given opportunities for vast majority to have access to the Word of God in their mother tongue.
Spiritual awareness has swept over most of these neglected regions. The people have heard the salvation message of Christ. Testimonies received from the North speak volumes about impact of the Word of God on the indigenous people.
Christians are now organizing all night prayer sessions, evangelistic meetings; the demand for bicycles was met to enable door to door and inter-village evangelism. In one of the reports, the members realized that they must work to support the pastor and the church activities. This enthusiasm yielded fruits many more churches are been planted.
The light of the gospel has brought not only salvation but enlightenment. On the 7th of October 2008, the Kpassah Congregation, for example, started a school and have undertaken farming project in order to support needy ones and pay the teachers. This is the result of Theovision’s bold initiative.
Beside the poverty and illiteracy, idol worship is endemic. However, the gospel is breaking those traditions. In the Obunju Church, a whole village refused to contribute towards community ritual sacrifice, and decided not to eat the meat offered to idols. This is the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
A new convert at Naamu who used to drink, fight and chase other men’s wives, said, “I have stopped fighting and chasing women, I will fight for Jesus and chase people for Christ.” They believe that only the blood of Jesus has power and has saved them from their sins and that there is no other blood.
The aims of Theovision’s Church Planting missionary support are to expose the indigenous people to the gospel and teach them to be self-supporting. These aims have been fulfilled. Souls have been saved, the spirit of evangelism is high, they have seen the need to support their pastors and meet their own financial obligations.
We are very grateful to God for His provision which has enabled us to sustain the Church planting support. “By faith kingdoms were subdued”. AMEN!
